Alligators, deadly lightening, swamp tours, gator on a stick, the lovely craziness of Louisianna..

Louisiana Swamp Tour

Miriam & her new best buddy.

Don't they look happy together!  He's ecstatic!

A taste & almost a BITE of the Bayou for Daniel & Miriam.

Whoopee!..gators, snakes, - no Dorothy not bears - but deadly freaking lightning!

Seriously..we're going along in the tour, the guide is tossing marshmallows to the gators...it's a beautiful day and wop bop a loo bop...BAM! (not to mention DAMN)...we're trapped in a metal boat surrounded by gators deep in the  swamp...deadly lightening spanking the sky.  Pretty scary looking to your guide for reassurance and he looks like he needs to change pants.  His eyes popping out and he's pushing the boat to the limit.  No lie --- the freaking boat motor overheats, shuts down and sets off a never-ending alarm screeching "wheeeeeeeeeeee" as we're crawling - barely moving -  back to safety.

He kept reassuring us that home was just around the bend but it was a lot further than that.  Not to mention - horrifyingly scarier with gators and lightning on all sides.

At this point in the swamp tour - we're barely moving, pelted by sideways rain, cringing at  violent flashes, and lifting our legs off the metal deck in hopes it helped when destiny struck.    Miriam keeps asking me if I thought we would be alright (translation: live to tell about it) and I was trying to look calm & cool so she wouldn't be worried. (never been a good actor).

I swear the lightning struck directly beside us a half dozen times.  After watching 4 or 5 gators appear when a single marshmallow was thrown in the water  (see video below), I knew what would happen if we were forced or knocked off the boat by a lightning strike.

Not our happiest moment (probably one of the single damn scariest moments of my life), but everything else was great!

 Dat's the Bayou for you;)

If they react to marshmallows like this, I was not looking forward to swimming to safety!

Push Play to watch Marshmallow eating Gator.

Swamp beauty baby.  (Sounds like a song title - what ya think Tab?)

Miriam never backs down to a challenge.  I' m not saying this is some sort of contest for world's biggest mouth or anything...I'm not saying anything like that.

and now...                The Deer Whisperer Chronicles...
In video on right, a Wild Deer comes up and introduces itself.

Alright, this ain't spose to happen is it?  I mean a wild dear (I mean deer but watch the video - he really is a dear) walks up to me so I can pet him and shoo bugs away.   The park rangers were scared to death he was going to do something violent to me but he...well watch the video.

 Amazing, rare & weird.

Push play above.

Miriam and I  had a big time and

I hope you have a good time checking it out.

Miriam in the New Orleans Open Ai Market before we went on the Swamp tour.  I don't think this guy really appreciates the Gator on a Stick sign on left.  We saw this guy in a pond beside the road on the way to the swamp tour.

The Swamp was beautiful.  Look at the reflective blue water in the bottom right corner.  I hope you'll expand and enjoy some of these pictures.
Luscious Green.  Two guys fishing in the swamp.  They gave me a long list of fish they were catching but...sorry...I forgot the list.

Signs of Katrina damage everywhere.  The park guides told us that Katrina has opened up so many areas of the swamp to sun that never received it before This new sunlight is affecting animals,  vegetation, the entire ecosytem in dramatic ways.
Expand this picture by clicking and observe all the beautiful blue flowers beside Miriam.  The park had a beautiful walkway through the swamp. Very cool and mystical place.

Deer in background before he walked up to me.

Poor deer had a bad scar on the neck.  The rangers told me that the bucks often beat up on the young bucks.
He didn't seem freaked out by the buses that showed up Miriam is shown here right before jumping on the back of the fawn for an exciting ride around the park....just kidding:)

Hey, get a hotel room why don't you? I don't know if this is a nest or what.  It sure looked like Home to something.
The trees...as you know - I love trees..but anyway, the trees were spectacular. More spectacular trees & moss.

The guy who took us on a swamp cruise had a little bird & duck & gator zoo at his house.  We saw some cool stuff right in his yard.

Exotic pheasant or....

Don't ask me what that gators doing to that turtle cause I guarantee you that I don't know.  I think the gator may have been sending a message. The rain & storm starting.  We're miles into the swamp. Gators on all sides.  We're f*%ked.

We went to this a small town, Houma,  after the tour.  We actually went to eat at Tab Benoit's restaurant but it was no longer there.  Bummer.  But we really liked Houma, had a good meal, saw a community cajun party.  Cool stuff.

After barely surviving the Swamp tour, she's ready to jump!

Okay, she's a nut but I love her.

We have a lot of fun!
